Wewillwintoday: The Colorado Avalanche chose Kallio in the fourth round (81st overall) of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, but the winger spent the next five seasons in the Finnish Elite League. There, Kallio totaled 133 points (62 goals, 71 assists) in 206 games from 1995-2000. The Atlanta Thrashers plucked Kallio from the Avs in the 1999 NHL Expansion Draft, and, in 2000, he came to North America and played 56 games for the Thrashers. Kallio finished his rookie campaign with 14 goals and 13 assists. In 2001-02, he registered eight goals and 14 assists in 60 games.
